Sedation Options
Scared of dentist visits? We can help! Patient comfort is a priority at Justice Dental. Many patients experience dental anxiety and are fearful of their dental visits, not to mention undergoing dental procedures. While dental phobia (also called dentophobia or odontophobia) is a common occurrence, it shouldn’t interfere with yearly visits to the dentist.
Sedation dentistry is an excellent option for fearful or anxious patients. Sedation is accomplished through an oral medication method or an intravenous (IV) method, placing the recipient in a conscious, but thoroughly relaxed state. We also provide our patients with Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) as a lighter option of relaxation.
Oral Sedation and IV Sedation are both a conscious form of sedation.
Oral Sedation
Oral Sedation utilizes a prescription medication that induces a drowsy and very relaxed feeling. This medication is given orally. Due to the sedative effects of the medication, patents must have a friend or family member bring them to the dental office and take them home.
With oral sedation, the patient’s vital signs are closely monitored. Although patients are not completely unconscious, many sleep through their dental appointment without any pain, stress, or worry. Few patients have any memory of their treatment and experience a relaxed state of tranquility.
IV Sedation
With IV Sedation, the patient is administered medication intravenously. This induces a drowsy and relaxed feeling, enabling the patient to remain completely calm and sedated throughout the treatment.
The patient’s vital signs are closely monitored throughout the process; and although not completely unconscious, many sleep through their dental appointment without any pain or anxiety. Very few patients have any memory of their treatment.
