Dancing With the Lexington Stars

Congratulations to Dr. Laura Justice,

the People’s Choice winner!

On May 14th, a group of talented dancers donned their dancing shoes and came together in Lexington, Kentucky to support a great cause.

“I love to dance, and have always wanted to take ballroom dance lessons,” Laura explained. “This was a perfect opportunity to learn while helping with a great cause.” She took one lesson years ago, but never continued due to timing.

To prepare for her role on Dancing With the Lexington Stars, she trained for 2 1/2 months with a professional dance instructor. When the time came, she took center stage to dance both the Samba and Jitterbug.

Afterwards Dr. Justice, a locally known Lexington dentist, won the People’s Choice Award, which was determined by votes at $5 each.

Since its inaugural 2011 edition, Dancing With the Lexington Stars has made its mark as one of the most exciting fundraisers in our community. After receiving dance training from the professionals at Arthur Murray Dance Studios, local leaders, celebrities, and influential individuals come together to dance the night away, and raise funds for the Lexington rotary Club Endowment Fund.

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster community service. The Rotary Endowment is the body through which the Rotary Club of Lexington carries out many philanthropic activities.

The Endowment provides funding for such programs as Youth Exchange, International Student Picnic, Scholarships, Tommy Bell Award, International Service Program, Winter Coat Program, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and the Read Program. It also supports organizations such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Explorium of Lexington, Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning, God’s Pantry Food Bank, The Nest, Lexington Hearing and Speech, the YMCA and various discretionary donations.

With around $450,000 raised within the first five years, it’s easy to see how this event has touched the lives of those not only in Lexington, but those in all of Kentucky, and surrounding states as well. All proceeds from this charitable event benefit Surgery On Sunday, Inc., & The Lexington Rotary Club Endowment Fund. Surgery On Sunday, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides free outpatient surgical services for those who cannot afford insurance and are not eligible for federal or state programs.

Services are provided by physicians, nurses and other medical professionals who donate their time and expertise to reach out to those in need. Volunteers with the program have provided thousands of surgical procedures and have served more than 4,000 clients in all 120 counties within Kentucky and several surrounding states!  Please visit their website for more information.
